Flax Maiden: Lin Phormium

Name: derived from botanical name (phormium tenax) for the native flax of New Zealand.

Background: my attemt at hand made flax paper.

Face and hand: sculptured from a pulp of flax leaves and water-soluable, clear plastic adhesive.

Hair: hackeled linen fibre.

Crochet border and garment: hand spun linen fibre.

Decoration: dried flower stem.

Mount: an oval of heavy card.

Border: heavy card padded covered in linen fabric; then the crochet attached with invisible stitches.

Size: oval – 19" x 15" [48cm x 38cm]
